*******MUSIC AND PERFORMANCE*******

Saturday 12th of June:

Klezmic Zirkus (BE)
Just drop in at the 13, Chemin des Mandarines ;
The light is soft and welcoming.
A poetic song crosses the nearby rue des Pierres.
One can hear in the far, the frantic brass of a freylach,
The eclectic sounds of Montreal,
Some ritornellos with their memories still full of eastern Europe.
A journey in Klezmic Zirkus ‘s contrasted world.
Here or there. Yesterday or today. Eyes half shut or wide open.
It doesn’t matter, the intensity does.
Dazibao (BE)
Dazibao music is difficult to define, close to a folk atmosphere "Euro-East" festive. The successful fusion of diatonic accordions of Sophie and Jonathan de Neck Cavez weaves emotions of extraordinary journeys.

Pearl buttons and bellows produce a world of dance and listening talkative. At the center of this universe revolve acoustic personalities and backgrounds already well marked and striking.

Esther Slegh (NL)
Really nice BellyDAnce Act And Workshop
The Great Bulgarian Circus (BE)
The Great bulgarian circus is a theatre company like no other. The organisation is a big bunch of young people that play, create and think together to make great performances. Even the people behind the scenes are young people; they do the paperwork, web design, artwork, bookings etc.
Kalio Gayo (NL)
Kalio Gayo, party folk with balkan touch.
Powerful compelling voices, adventurous banjo, accordion, guitar and a fast rhythm section. Kalio takes you on a trip to a wild party on a village square in a remote corner of Europe, the bustling streets of a warm metropolis, a rough bus ride across the steppe. Little stories about quarrelling neighbours, a brave little bird, rainfall after drought and coming home after a long journey. Written in words that nobody knows but everyone can understand. Spicy party folk with melancholic edge.
Aroha Serpentine (NL)
Aroha Serpentine dances to many a fascinating beat. Let her make you smile with her bright and cheery balkan-beats dance with an oriental twist! Caution: Her colourful outfit may blind you!

Les Øffs (BE)
Infecting a beautiful klezmer melody with a superfast lyric about computer viruses? Greek rebetiko with a harmonica? Singing in all kinds of languages, of which they maybe understand only half? Making the public dance a polonaise on a Sjostakovitsj tune? Les Øffs (pronounce as lézeuf) will make all of these improbabilities  happen.

This much is certain: Les Øffs is a band that’s hard to define! These five musicians are all real stage animals. In their eyes folk music is nothing more than a vehicle with which they carry the public to their Øffic places. They have an aversion of too much sérieux. But don’t mistake… They do have something to tell. Furthermore, they bring their little messages with great esteem, with a passion and true love for music, but foremost with a visible attention for each other, striking any audience with their close harmony vocals.  A harmonica, a guitar, a contrabass and a cajòn will easily take you to their absurd universe. They provide an evening with a lot of joie de vivre and a some laughs on top

Les Øffs write most of their tragic-comical lyrics themselves, and easily produce the same songs in French or English. The Spanish, Russian, Greek or Roma excursions are mostly existing songs which they have adapted..

Dj Tomasc (NL)

In my Balkan Beat sets I try to put as many different genres as possible, ranging from Bosnian Dubstep to Russian R'n B, from Klezmerhop to Rumanian reggaeton, from Slavic Ska to Polish punk, but of course also lots of speed fanfares, polka's, coceks, sirba's and drunken waltzes... Always trying to let you dance till you're wearing purple!!!

He is also playing a set together with dj team Schwarze Katze Weisser Kater

Dj-team Schwarze Katze Weisser Kater (DE)
Life is just a simple game, Between up and down
Life is just a simple game, Makes things go around
What is down should go up, What is up must go down
God first showed us the endless sky, Then the underground
What is up and what is down, Who will buy and who will sell
Heaven sometimes covers us, But sometimes it is hell
The head is up and ass is down, Is it right or is it wrong
Sometimes It should go around, Ass instead of head
The ass is up and head is down, The same flash same sound
God first show us the endless sky
Then the underground
Dj Hapu & Sòj (LBB)
As seen a lot in the LBB you'll know what you gonna get!!
Dance, Swing, Dance, Swing till you die!!

Sunday 13th of June:

Los Callejeros (BE)

Los Callejeros takes you on a musical journey through the world. Their music is not limited to one

genre, but is a mix of several styles like reggae, cumbia, salsa, gipsy and ska. With unique

instruments such as the Cuban Tres, an accordeon Vallenato, a Peruvian cajon and a charango,

they make every audience dance. During their travels through South America they were inspired by

everything and everyone who crossed their path. 'El Camino es el Destino' is the surprising result.

After a few musical years abroad, Los Callejeros decided to reside next summer in Europe. Their

live performance is known as a heartwarming musical surprise. An experience for young and old

to enjoy.

Tabor (NL)

The Sinti** ensemble Tabor***  presents musical theatre (O’dschipen) about the daily life of Sinti in Limburg, thus providing you with a peep in the life of the oldest European minority. The play has been directed by theatre producer/director Bep Mergelsberg.
The first act is situated in the trailer park where the musicians live. They are rehearsing near the camp fire. Laundry is dangling from the clotheslines, sausages are on the barbecue, the beer is well-cooled, and stories of past and present are being told in the Romanez language. But there is more going on than this idyllic picture would suggest. In a digestible and clear-cut fashion, the play reveals the participation of Sinti in Limburg society, and their strife to preserve their unique identity. The second part tells of the work of the Sinti musicians. The group is about to play in a pub and goes ‘round to collect a contribution from the audience. On demand, they play their songs, dance, and party. But here also, this is not a matter of romance. The musicians discover that flamenco dancing is best performed when fuelled by composed anger and pride, and they pose the question whether the people from Limburg also have a dance that is suitable to vent such emotions.

*O’dschipen  is Romanez for “our life”.
La Femme Belge (BE)
A violin, a double bass, three guitars and a voice join forces to create a universe at once tender and animalistic, fusing the explosive energy of gipsy jazz and the lyrical honesty of the great chansonniers. Imagine a punkrock rhythm section going acoustic, with Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli exchanging solos while Tom Waits, Jacques Brel and Louis Armstrong pop in to tell their darkest tales. Live, La Femme Belge eschews neither chaos nor beauty, performing with an apocalyptic intensity seldom seen in acoustic line-ups. This outfit is pretty hard to outswing, and their effervescent performances have left many an audience bewildered.

Bikavar (NL)
Bikavar is a band with musicians from Utrecht who gathered to explore and play Balkan music and to share it with those who enjoy to hear it! They play both traditional and more modern songs from Rumania, Serbia, Albania, Bosnia and Greece. Some songs are melancholic and expressive as Balkan music can be, other songs make your feet itch to do some dancing! - ‘We look forward to sing and dance with you at the Cirque du Balkan!’
Conny Schneider (DE)

Feelings and thoughts can be found in every little piece of art. The media that is used does not matter to me as long as a message is transported to the audience. The music I play on the saxophone is coloured by a variety of styles starting from Jazz over Pop, passing free improvised music and travel further to Ska and Reggae. My compositions are kept simple but still offer free space for improvisation. My stories are told on an acrobatic playground using the trapeze as artistic messenger. The main emphasis lies not on simple performance of tricks. Movements are my way to express the feelings, to create the very special atmosphere of the story told. Every movement has a deeper meaning and is meant to invite the audience into the plot. This invitation is the challenge an artist faces; the public will only follow him/her into this unknown world if it was touched.

Mudicine (NL)

Music and poetry, for your body and mind, medicine four your soul. Originally an improvisation band but in the meanwhile playing inciting and lively songs. Let the dance set you free in the same way as the light shines. Mudicine loves you!

Dj Angelplur+
Dj Angel Rockswing (ES)

Make you dance on nice Swing music!!
Dj Janusch (NL)

De liefde voor gipsy-music en balkanbeats kan Janusch maar niet rustig krijgen.

Daarom draait hij nu ook zelf (door)!

Uptempo gipsy-sounds waar lekker op gedanst kan worden.
